What is Marine Insurance?

Marine insurance covers goods while they are being transported, from the supplier’s warehouse to yours. Marine cargo covers international shipments by sea or air; inland transit covers goods moving by road within Oman and the GCC; hauliers’ liability protects transport companies for the goods they carry.

Importers and exporters using Sohar, Salalah, Duqm and Muscat often move goods many times a year. An annual open policy can cover every shipment automatically. We help you choose the right terms and the right basis of value.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Institute Cargo Clauses A, B and C?

Clause A is the widest, all risks cover. Clauses B and C cover named events only, with C the narrowest. Most buyers choose A.

Ask an advisor

Do I need insurance if my supplier ships the goods?

It depends on the Incoterms in your contract. Under FOB or CFR, you usually carry the risk during the voyage and should insure it.

Ask an advisor

What is an open policy?

An annual policy that covers all your shipments automatically within agreed limits, so you do not need to arrange cover for each one.

Ask an advisor

What value should I insure?

Usually the invoice value plus freight and insurance, with an extra percentage to cover other costs.

Ask an advisor

What should I do if goods arrive damaged?

Note the damage on the delivery documents, keep the goods and packaging, and contact us straight away so a survey can be arranged.
