What is Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance protects you against the cost of things going wrong away from home, from a medical emergency abroad to a cancelled flight or lost baggage. Most plans include a 24-hour assistance line that can arrange treatment, hospital payments and, if needed, medical evacuation.

Many countries ask for travel insurance before they issue a visa, including the Schengen countries in Europe. We help you choose the right plan for your destination, the length of your trip and the people travelling with you.

Who it’s for

  • Families going on holiday or visiting relatives
  • Business travellers and frequent flyers

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Do I need travel insurance for a Schengen visa?

Yes. Schengen visa applications require travel medical insurance with at least EUR 30,000 of cover, valid in all Schengen countries for the whole trip. We can provide a plan and certificate that meet this.

Ask an advisor

What is the difference between single-trip and annual cover?

Single-trip cover protects one journey. Annual cover protects every trip you take within a year, usually with a maximum length per trip. It often costs less if you travel several times a year.

Ask an advisor

Can I buy travel insurance after I have booked my trip?

Yes, but it is best to buy it as soon as you book, so cancellation cover starts straight away.

Ask an advisor

Am I covered for sports and adventure activities?

Many plans exclude hazardous activities such as skiing or diving unless you add them. Tell us your plans and we will check.

Ask an advisor

How do I claim if something happens abroad?

Call the 24-hour assistance number on your policy for medical emergencies. For other losses, keep receipts and reports and contact us when you are back; we will guide you through the claim.
